Here I am with some of my favorite things
Fairy Bench for Contemplating Beauty
Bowls filled with shells, bits, stones and dried flowers from my garden
Flowers in my garden that sometimes end up in my bezels
My earliest memory of making things was arranging a mandala of flowers from my mother’s garden into the lid of the garbage can. I was four and as an only child I had lots of time to create and build and explore outdoors in the nearby fields, orchards and riverbanks.
As an adult I made my career in counseling. That training in deeply seeing what is hidden and reflecting it back, along with my curiosity for the natural world and sciences, is the foundation for my vision in the works I create. My early years spent outdoors so much of the time opened me up to a visceral sensitivity to the colors, patterns and raw, organic textures of the natural world.
Over many years I have experimented with a variety of media to create forms that reflect my enchantment with the world. I’ve painted, sculpted in clay, woven beautiful glass beads together, but it is when I had my first classes in metal work that I found my other passion..tools! When I am in my studio, tools and torch in hand, bowls of beautiful stones, dried flowers, glass beads, shells..the alchemy begins and I am in reverie.
