The Longing to Find Visible Form

The poet/philosopher, John O'Donohue says, "Everything in the world of soul has a wonderful desire and longing to find visible form."  I imagine my soul directs me to make things; adornments, jewelry, a garden, a soulful room, music, a sanctuary of peace and sensuality, because these are the desires rise from me.

I love this idea that the soul is visually manifested in what we create.  The soul expresses love in the loving things we do, music might be the voice of the soul, a garden the soul's love of color and form and scent.  

My thoughts then turn to my own soul and my desire to truly allow it's expression to unfold as it desires, as I am meant to be in the world.  My compulsion to create Jewelry surely must be fueled by my soul's expressive desire.  Clearly she loves long, long dangling lines and lots of texture and warm bits of color.  

There is a petroglyph found in Utah that shows a Shaman with long legs suggesting he/she remains grounded to the earth but has the ability to soar to other worlds.  My Celtic mind, which naturally embraces both the visible and the invisible worlds, can relate to this idea of traveling between worlds and this may be the source of my love for the elongated lines that appear in so much of my work.

When you think of your own responses to the world, the things that resonate with you, your own creative compulsions, your own expressive compulsions, perhaps this is part of your own soul's longing to find it's visible form.
